Growing the economy by creating employment opportunities
Flinders University have a vision to unlock 4000 jobs over five years at The Factory of the Future. These new jobs will promote the growth of advanced manufacturing in areas of strategic importance to the nation.
Education and industry are brought together congruously. Researchers will work with companies and provide access to industrial-scale test labs to offset the risks associated with investments in new technologies and capabilities.
“The Factory of the Future is going to provide an ideal training ground for hundreds of graduates as well as thousands of people who are going to be working in and around the shipbuilding industry in the next few decades.”
Professor John Spoehr, Director,

Supporting Apprenticeships to Meet Growing Demand for Skills in Advanced Manufacturing
Jobs growth is essential to support the national economy. More than ever, skilled workers are needed in advanced manufacturing, reflecting Australia’s transition from low-cost, high volume production to high-value, lower-volume activities.
The Factory of the Future will become a key national site for STEM engagement, helping to build workforce capability through the development of education and training programs. It is estimated that 500 students will benefit from the programs – particularly in areas of digital and advanced manufacturing technologies in naval shipbuilding – over five years.
With naval shipbuilding a key strategic industry central to Australia’s sovereign identity, supporting education, research and future jobs is critical to the nation’s future.
